When should you Prune?

Regular pruning should be done in the late winter or early spring, shortly before trees begin to grow buds. If the tree has already started to bud and pruning is needed, it is better to delay any pruning until after the new leaf growth has fully grown out. Dead and low hanging branches should be pruned immediately as they pose a safety risk. Typically, a newly planted tree needs a minimal amount of pruning in the first couple years.

Why should you prune?

Pruning trees can enhance both the the health of the tree and the appearance of the surrounding landscape. Pruning trees is an essential pratice in ensuring that the tree does not become overgrown and extending the lifespan of your tree. By pruning regularly, the tree may also be assessed regularly and any diseases can typically be diagnosed at an earlier stage or avoided.

The Right Way to Pruning Trees in Delta

In order to have a tree be healthy, beautiful and protected from diseases, we always create a custom plan as our first step before we do any pruning. When done incorrectly, pruning can wound a tree. It's important that when pruning is performed on your tree it is meticulously planned and carried out. A popular method called "tree topping", for instance, may effectively lessen a tree's life. In fact, tree topping can expose the tree to disease. Another method often performed on recently transplanted trees involves thinning out the crown to make up for loss of root mass. This is completely unnecessary and usually ends up being harmful to the tree. Reckless pruning practices like this are the reason why all of our arborists that will be working on your trees are fully certified. Our approaches to pruning has been honed for more than a decade of experience, and are scientifically proven to be safe and healthy for your tree.

How Long Does Tree Pruning Take?

The amount of time needed to prune your tree normally depends on the size of the tree. Small trees may take around an hour, while a large tree may on average take a whole day to finish pruning.

Do I need to do anything before you prune my tree?

We will need to know of any special lawn sprinkler systems you have near the tree to avoid any accidents due to fallen branches. Playsets, decorations, lawn furniture, and all other potential obstructions should be moved to a safe distance away from the trees that need pruning before we arrive. Last but not least, please make sure that our team will have easy access to the tree on the day of our appointment.
