What is the best season to Prune trees?
Regular pruning should be done in the early spring or late winter, just before the tree begins to bud. If the tree has already began to bud and pruning is needed, we highly suggest postponing any trimming until after the new leaf growth has fully grown out. Dead and low hanging branches must be pruned immediately due to safety concerns. Generally, newly planted trees require only a small amount of pruning for the first couple years.
Why is tree pruning important?
Tree pruning may enhance both the look of the surrounding space and the well-being of the tree. Pruning trees is an important practice which extends the life of your trees and guarantees that it does not grow beyond an appropriate size. By pruning regularly, the tree may also be evaluated regularly and any disease may be caught at an earlier stage or avoided.
Tree Pruning Practices in New Westminster
In order to have a tree be beautiful, healthy and protected from disease, we always create a custom plan as our first step before we do any pruning. It's essential that when pruning is performed on your tree it is professionally planned out and executed. If done in a careless manner, pruning can damage your tree. A popular method called "tree topping", for instance, may severely reduce the life of a tree. Tree topping can in fact expose the tree to disease. Another practice normally done to newly transplanted trees consists of cutting back the crown to make up for loss of root mass. This is unnecessary and usually ends up causing harm to your tree. Dangerous pruning methods like this are why all of our arborists that will be working on your trees are fully certified. The ways that we prune have been developed for more than a decade of experience, and have been proven to be safe and healthy for your tree.
How Long Does It Take to Prune A Tree?
The length of time needed to prune a tree normally depends on how big the tree is. Small trees can take around an hour, while large trees may on average need the whole working day to prune completely.
Is there anything I need to prepare before you prune my trees?
You'll need to tell us the location of any special lawn watering systems you have near the tree to prevent any damage from falling branches. Lawn furniture, decorations, playsets, and all other objects should be moved safely away from the tree that need pruning prior to our appointment. Please make sure that we will have open access to the tree on the day of our appointment. This will help us complete the work as efficiently as possible.
