When should you Prune your trees?

Seasonal pruning should be done in the late winter or early spring, shortly before the trees start to bud. If pruning is needed after the tree has already begun to bud, we suggest delaying any trimming until the new leaves have grown out to their full size. To be safe, dead and low hanging should be pruned off promptly. As a general rule of thumb, a minimal amount of pruning is required in the first three years after a tree is planted.

Why should trees be pruned?

Tree pruning may enhance the aesthetics of the surrounding area and the well-being of the tree. Tree pruning is an essential pratice in lengthening the life of your trees and making sure that the tree does not become overgrown. By pruning regularly, the tree may also be evaluated regularly and any diseases can typically be prevented or discovered at an earlier stage.

Pruning Practices in Langley

In order to have a tree be beautiful, healthy and protected from disease, we always create a custom plan as our first step before we do any pruning. When done carelessly, pruning can wound your tree. It's essential that when pruning is performed on your tree it is meticulously planned out and completed. For example, one common method called "tree topping" can severely diminish a tree's life. In fact, tree topping can expose the tree to disease. Another practice often done to newly transplanted trees calls for reducing the crown to make up for root loss. Doing this is completely unnecessary and often harms your tree. Careless pruning methods like this are the reason why all of our arborists that will be doing work on your trees are fully certified. Our approaches to pruning has been developed for more than a decade of experience, and have been proven to be safe and healthy for your tree.

How Long Does It Take to Prune Trees?

The amount of time needed to prune your tree typically depends on how big or small the tree is. A small tree can take around an hour, while a large tree may usually need a full day to prune completely.

Is there anything I need to prepare before I have my trees pruned?

You'll need to tell us the location of any special lawn watering systems you have near the tree to prevent any damage due to branches falling. Playsets, decorations, lawn furniture, and all other objects must be moved safely away from the trees that need to be pruned before our team gets there. Please clear a path so that our team will have access to where the tree is located on the day of our appointment.
