What is the ideal season to Prune?

Regular pruning should be performed in the early spring or late winter, right before the trees start to bud. If pruning is needed after the tree has already begun to bud, it is better to postpone any trimming until the new leaf growth has fully grown out. Due to safety concerns, low hanging and dead branches should be pruned right away. As a general rule of thumb, a newly planted tree requires only a small amount of pruning in the first three years.

Why is tree pruning important?

Tree pruning can improve both the appearance of the surrounding space and the well-being of the tree. Pruning plays a crucial part in lengthening the life of your trees and making sure that the tree does not grow out of control. By pruning regularly, trees may also be evaluated regularly and any diseases can typically be caught earlier or prevented.

Proper Tree Pruning Practices in Vancouver

Before we prune, we always put together a custom plan that will leave the tree healthy, beautiful and free from disease. It's crucial that when pruning is performed to your tree it is professionally planned out and executed. If done carelessly, pruning can damage your tree. One popular practice called "tree topping", for instance, can greatly diminish the life of a tree. In fact, tree topping can make the tree vulnerable to disease. Another practice normally performed on newly transplanted trees consists of reducing the crown to compensate for root loss. This is unnecessary and usually harmful to your tree. Dangerous pruning practices like this are the reason why all of our arborists that will be doing work on your trees are fully certified. Our pruning practices have been developed after more than a decade of experience, and are scientifically proven to be safe and healthy for your tree.

How Long Does Tree Pruning Take?

The length of time it will take to prune a tree typically depends on how large the tree is. Small trees may take around an hour, while large trees may normally need the full working day to finish pruning.

What arrangements do I have to make before I have my tree pruned?

We'll need to know of any special lawn watering systems you have close to the tree to prevent any damage from branches falling. Furniture, lawn decorations, playsets, and all other objects should be moved safely away from the trees that need to be pruned before our team gets there. Last but not least, please make sure that we will have easy access to the tree on the day of our appointment. This will avoid any delays in completing the job.
