Ladner Tree Pruning

What is the ideal time to Prune trees?

Regular pruning should be performed in the early spring or late winter, right before the trees start to grow buds. If the tree has already started to bud and pruning is needed, we suggest postponing any trimming until the leaves have fully grown out. Dead and low hanging branches must be pruned immediately as they pose a safety risk. Overall, newly planted trees need very little pruning in the first three years.

Why should you prune trees?

Pruning trees may greatly benefit both the appearance of the surrounding landscaping and the well-being of the tree. Tree pruning is an essential pratice in making sure that a tree does not become overgrown and prolonging the lifespan of your trees. When pruning is done regularly, the tree can also be assessed regularly and any disease may be avoided or detected at an earlier stage.

The Right Way to Pruning a Tree in Ladner

In order to have a tree be beautiful, healthy and free from disease, we always create a custom plan as our first step before we do any pruning. If done carelessly, pruning can cause damage to your tree. It is essential that when pruning is done on your tree it is carefully planned out and executed. For instance, one common method called "tree topping" may severely lessen a tree's life. Tree topping can in fact put the tree at risk of disease. Another practice usually performed on recently transplanted trees calls for cutting back the crown to make up for loss of root mass. Doing this is unnecessary and usually causes harm to the tree. Reckless pruning methods like this are why all of our arborists that will be doing work on your trees are fully certified. Our pruning practices have been cultivated for more than a decade of trial and error, and have been proven to be safe and healthy for your tree.

How Long Does Tree Pruning Take?

The length of time needed to prune your tree depends typically on how large the tree is. Small trees may take around an hour, while large trees may typically need the entire working day to finish pruning.

Do I need to do anything before I have my trees pruned?

We will need to know of any special lawn sprinkler systems you have near the tree to avoid any damage due to fallen branches. Playsets, decorations, lawn furniture, and all other items that may get in the way must be moved safely away from the tree that we will prune prior to our appointment. Last but not least, please clear a path so that we will have open access to the tree on the day of the appointment. This will help our team finish the job as efficiently as possible.
