Surrey Tree Pruning

What is the best season to Prune?

The ideal time to prune is in the late winter or early spring, right before trees begin to grow buds. If the tree has already began to bud and pruning is needed, we highly suggest delaying any trimming until after the new leaf growth has fully grown out. To be safe, dead and low hanging must be pruned right away. As a general rule of thumb, only a small amount of pruning is needed in the first couple years of a tree's life.

Why is it important to prune your trees?

Tree pruning may improve the the health of the tree and the aesthetics of the surrounding landscape. Pruning plays a crucial part in lengthening the life of your tree and making sure that a tree does not become overgrown. Through regular pruning, the tree may also be assessed regularly and any disease may be avoided or detected at a treatable stage.

How to Prune Trees in Surrey

The first thing we do before we prune is to put together a tailored plan that will allow the tree to be beautiful, healthy and free from diseases. It's important that when pruning is done to your tree it is meticulously planned out and executed. If done in an incorrect manner, pruning can wound a tree. For instance, a popular practice called "tree topping" may effectively lessen the life of a tree. Tree topping can in fact put the tree at risk of disease. Another practice typically performed on newly transplanted trees involves thinning out the crown to compensate for root loss. Doing this is unnecessary and often ends up causing harm to your tree. Dangerous pruning methods like this are why all of our arborists that will be working on your trees are fully certified. Our pruning practices have been developed for more than a decade of trial and error, and have been proven to be safe and healthy for your tree.

How Long Does It Take?

The amount of time it will take to prune a tree depends typically on how big the tree is. A small tree may take around an hour, while large trees may typically need a whole working day to prune completely.

What preparations do I have to make before you prune my trees?

We will need to know of any special lawn sprinkler systems you have near the tree to avoid any accidents due to falling branches. Lawn decorations, furniture, playsets, and any other hazards must be stored at a safe distance away from the trees to be pruned prior to our appointment. Overall, please clear a path so that our team will have wide open access to the location of the tree on the day of the appointment.
