When should you Prune trees?
Regular pruning should be performed in the early spring or late winter, right before the trees start to grow buds. If the tree has already began to bud and pruning is needed, it is better to delay any trimming until the new leaf growth has fully grown out. For safety reasons, low hanging and dead branches should be pruned off right away. In most cases, only a small amount of pruning is necessary for the first couple years of a tree's life.
Why prune trees?
Tree pruning is beneficial for both the the health of the tree and the appearance of the surrounding landscape. Pruning is an important practice which lengthens the life of your tree and ensures that it maintains an appropriate height. By pruning regularly, the tree can also be evaluated regularly and any disease may be detected earlier or prevented.
The Right Way to Pruning Trees in White Rock
In order to have a tree be healthy, beautiful and free from diseases, we always create a custom plan as our first step before we do any pruning. It's important that when pruning is done on your tree it is meticulously planned out and executed. When done in a careless manner, pruning can cause harm to a tree. A popular practice called "tree topping", for instance, can greatly lessen the life of a tree. In fact, tree topping can expose the tree to disease. Another method normally performed on newly transplanted trees consists of cutting back the crown to make up for root loss. Doing this is unnecessary and often harmful to the tree. Dangerous pruning practices like this are why all of our arborists that will be working on your trees are fully certified. The ways that we prune have been developed after more than a decade of trial and error, and have been proven to be safe and healthy for your tree.
How Long Does It Take to Prune Trees?
The amount of time needed to prune a tree mostly depends on the size of the tree. A small tree can take around an hour, while a large tree may on average take the entire working day to prune completely.

We'll need to know of any special lawn sprinkler systems you have close to the tree to prevent any damage due to falling branches. Furniture, lawn decorations, playsets, and all other hazards must be stored at a safe distance away from the tree that need pruning prior to our arrival. Last but not least, please ensure that we will have wide open access to the location of the tree on the day of the appointment. This will help our team finish the work as efficiently as possible.
